The quest to unearth lost reggae songs

Bob Marley for example did not exist by himself in the Reggae music sphere. He had progenitors and contemporaries who recorded an enormous amount of quality music.

Reggae music has always been a scrappy genre that has been supported through a network of independent labels, producers, artists, writers, and musicians. Given its very informal but enthusiastic beginnings, there are thousands of reggae songs that are part of the foundations of reggae music that are trapped on vinyl records, studio tapes, and sometimes in record boxes of collectors.

Bob Marley for example did not exist by himself in the Reggae music sphere. He had progenitors and contemporaries who recorded an enormous amount of quality music. Those reggae songs need to be unearthed and delivered to the reggae music loving public. Imagine a world without the “classics” of other genre’s music. The songs that define that genre.

We here at Artekal Music are on a mission to bring every recorded reggae song ever made to our platform. That obviously will take an extraordinary amount of effort and patience. However it’s a commitment that we have made. We will continue to work with our partners to unearth these hidden gems and bring them to light.

The genesis of an entire genre is important. There have been so many Reggae artists through the years who have recorded in some instances just a handful songs or even a single track. Music that has proven to be influential over time. As we make the effort and headway into accomplishing our goal, we will happily share the results as we will all benefit from the creativity of the people who expressed that creativity in the form of Reggae music.
